Despite family pressures being apparent due to a clash with Father's Day 41 members entered the Competition at Old Padeswood GC on Sunday and the excellent scores submitted suggest that the Course set-up and condition were first class.
A number of late withdrawals and some re-entries certainly tested the patience and equanimity of our Match Secretary who managed to eventually issue a starting sheet with a degree of confidence, but I'm sure even the Biblical Job would find his task very frustrating as the initial sheet was amended so many times that there appeared to be more arrows on it than General Custer saw at the Little Big Horn!
Gripe over because the rest of the day was enjoyed with the usual enjoyable 'craic' and great atmosphere although even this was marred with Mike Holland having to withdraw affter his daughter had a nasty fall so we wish her all the best, and then we had a message that our Vice-Captain,Tony Godden, had been taken ill so couldn't come later as arranged to carry out the Presentation of Prizes, and obviously we also wish Tony all the best for a speedy recovery. In the absence of our Captain on holiday and President on Grand-fatherly duties we were fortunate to have one of our Past Presidents, Ken Hayton O.B.E. (2005) in attendance and he kindly agreed to step in and make the Presentation after a superb meal laid on by Carl and his team who had made us all feel so welcome through the day-many thanks Carl.
The winner with an excellent score of 44 points was the home member, Dave Smyth who took the honours by 1 point from Runner-up,Nigel Bingham with Mr.Reliable,Terry Roberts, third with 41 Points. In fourth position was Kevin Leech on 39 points followed by Peter Roberts with 38.

After the dearth of Birdie 2's at Mold recently there were 7 shares of the sweep with 3 Balls each to Fred Davies, Don Fergusson, Terry Roberts, Pat McDermott, Nigel Bingham, Peter Roberts and as just reward for his tolerance, Glyn Lewis.
Let's have a good turn-out for our next event, the Fourball Better Ball at Hawarden on July 8th
